Wrath of the Righteous

Welcome to your campaign!
A blog for your campaign

Wondering how to get started? Here are a few tips:

1. Invite your players

Invite them with either their email address or their Obsidian Portal username.

2. Edit your home page

Make a few changes to the home page and give people an idea of what your campaign is about. That will let people know you’re serious and not just playing with the system.

3. Choose a theme

If you want to set a specific mood for your campaign, we have several backgrounds to choose from. Accentuate it by creating a top banner image.

4. Create some NPCs

Characters form the core of every campaign, so take a few minutes to list out the major NPCs in your campaign.

A quick tip: The “+” icon in the top right of every section is how to add a new item, whether it’s a new character or adventure log post, or anything else.

5. Write your first Adventure Log post

The adventure log is where you list the sessions and adventures your party has been on, but for now, we suggest doing a very light “story so far” post. Just give a brief overview of what the party has done up to this point. After each future session, create a new post detailing that night’s adventures.

One final tip: Don’t stress about making your Obsidian Portal campaign look perfect. Instead, just make it work for you and your group. If everyone is having fun, then you’re using Obsidian Portal exactly as it was designed, even if your adventure log isn’t always up to date or your characters don’t all have portrait pictures.

That’s it! The rest is up to your and your players.

Armasse! Kenabres celebrates!

For several weeks, excitement has been building in Kenabres – Armasse is coming! Traditionally an opportunity for scholars and priests to come together to study the lessons of history from wars past, since Aroden’s death, this holy day has become more about training commoners in weaponry, choosing squires, and ordaining new priests. Over time, Armasse has grown to encompass jousting competitions, mock duels, battle reenactments, and other festival events. In Kenabres, the festival (which takes place on 16 Arodus) is eagerly anticipated, for it provides distractions from the horrors of being on the front line of the war. Smiles on faces normally marred by downcast eyes and furrowed brows do wonders for city morale in the weeks leading up to the event.

Armasse is a citywide celebration, but the majority of the event, including its jousting matches and other entertainments, take place at Clydwell Plaza, just west of the cathedral. The celebration officially begins at noon, with the blessing of the festival performed by Lord Hulrun himself, the ruler of Kenabres.

The Beginning (of the End?)

I am Andariel Nailo, and I am writing this journal as I and my fellow adventurers roam through the underground tunnels beneath Kenabres. Hopefully it will serve as information for future reference about what went down in Kenabres, whether we survive or not. But let me start at the beginning. I was in Kenabres after a scouting mission along the border of the Worldwound. The scouting mission was boring, nothing seemed out of the ordinary. Back in town I needed some time to relax and Armasse was a great opportunity. The city wide celebration was always a bright day in otherwise mostly grim years. Lots of celebrating around, sometimes in excess. Personally I was looking forward to take a chance in the dueling ring, it is always fun and I usually make to final rounds earning some gold. At midday I was chilling at the Clydwell Plaza waiting for Lord Hulrun to make his yearly speech. I think his speeches are dull, but it is my duty to at least be in the square when he is talking. Everything went wrong when Lord Hulrun began his speech. An explosion in the distance followed by explosions in the city! Before anyone could react the church blew up right in front of me! And there he was, the Storm Lord (or King?). A huge dude sword and whip in hand surrounded in lightning. In addition demons began arriving, Invasion in Kenabres! Luckily the protector of the city the silver dragon Terendelev was amongst the crowd and went full on attack on the Strom King. Personally I prepare to repel the demon hordes. The two collide and the Storm King manages to kill Terendelev, so much for the protector of the city. Next I know the ground gives away beneath me, lucky me. As I fall into the pit I see that Terendelev sees me and with his dying breath slows my fall into the unknown. I wake up in a dark cavern, unharmed thanks to Terendelev. No demons in the vicinity. I check the rest of the survivors. Along with me the dragon saved 5 people. Until now only three managed to be useful: a dwarf paladin Ragnor Ironbrew, a dwarf cleric Bundühr Ironaxe Ironbrew, and a half-elf cleric of Sarenrae Threkil. For now I don't know why Terendelev saved the other two. First a human fighter which seems like he can take a hit but he kept a low profile and out of danger, what a wuss. Secondly a gnome which seems kinda shady (as most gnomes), who kept tailing the noble, for his money probably. There were other three survivors. Anevia Tirabade a human scout that I knew from my work as scout with the church of Iomedae. I can vouch for her, she should help us in this situation. She was injured in a leg (it was crushed by a rock), which was healed by Bundühr Ironaxe Ironbrew but will need further treatment if she is to walk properly again. Aravashnial an elf wizard who was badly injured, he was slashed in the face. Specifically in the eyes, he went blind. Threkil healed him but he was still blind. Finally a human noble Horgus Gwerm. He was very interested in going back quickly to the surface. He needs to chill a bit, we need to be cautious. The gnome seems to follow him around. We took some time for everyone to recover. In the meantime Threkil and I gave the best burial we could to the poor people that died in the fall and are scattered throughout the cave. Iomedae please take care of their souls.. After the rest we began exploring the cave. I scout ahead because the rest is too damn noisy, specially the paladin but he makes it up by hammering the enemies. First we discover some loose scales of Terendelev which have some unknown magical properties. Bundühr Ironaxe Ironbrew, Ragnor Ironbrew, and Threkil help me with the creatures we encounter. We dispatch 2 giant maggots, 2 giant cockroaches, and 1 snake. Finally we arrived at a big opening…

We had one fatality on our journey, but it was not our fault! There was a tremor and some rocks fell from the ceiling. Almost all did not get hit, but unfortunately for Kenny a big one cracked his skull.

Exploring underground

Kenny came back from the dead! WTF! He is even acting like nothing happened. Something is wrong here, we have to be careful.

So we were in the underground under Kenabres, trying to get back to the surface. After some exploration we entered this opening. Here we found an old shrine dedicated to Torag. We dispatched two giant flies before entering. Inside the place was desecrated because a dwarf committed suicide inside. Who understands dwarfs? Anyway this dwarf was still there! as some kind of ghost, which was killed (re-killed? destroy? damn undead… ) mainly by the holy fire of the clerics. We decided to rest in the shrine while Bundühr consecrated again this place. It worked perfectly. Even more we all felt the power of Torag blessing our way after the consecration. We continued exploring the caves, and we found a cavern with statues of old crusaders. Aravashnial thinks they are statues of the first crusaders that went underground to take care of their mongrel (people deformed by chaos energy, or something like that) sons. The important part was that we were attacked by two things that I can only describe as flying leeches. At least they weren't stirges! In the next cavern we encountered a mad dwarf. He went hostile that had to put down. Additional personal notes: – Anevia and Horgus don't seem to get along. I blame on the noble, he doesn't quite understand the predicament we are in. I tried to comfort Anevia, and Ragnor calmed Horgus. At least we are trying to keep them apart. – With Ragnor we are beginning to form a great team, we stab, slash, and smash everything quickly. – The gnome has began to be more useful. He tries to keep up with me in the scouting, but has tiny legs. He even began to participate in the battles, although he went down too fast in the last one. He tries at least which is more than I can say about . Even in heavy armor he stays in the back. I guess he protects us from back-attacks but still he could run to help once in a while.

Helping the Mutants

After dealing with the mad dwarf we resumed our journey through the underground caverns. We went up a steep tunnel in which the dwarves insisted to go up with everyone joined by a rope. Good for not falling down, but terrible for speed and stealth which are not high in the their priorities. After a while we found two mongrels trying to dig a third one from under a big rock. Everyone helped the mongrel while I did something equally important, watch the perimeter for threats. The mongrels were happy we helped and guided us to their village. We had to pass a chasm which went slowly in account of the injured party members. We were on the lookout for a fungal creature that roamed this tunnels. Luckily it was dead, apparently fighting the two crusaders of Iomedae found on the same room. Further inspection of the crusaders brought a surprise. They were not crusaders! Instead they were cultists from the demon god of beasts. The bastards were posing as followers of Iomedae! They were filth. Finally we arrived at the mutant village. We met with their chief. He explained another mongrel village was infiltrated by cultists, so they were evil. We are in charge now of dealing with them. In addition he offered to help us in the surface should we succeed in returning safely to Kenabres.

Kenny died again. In the village there was a small lake. He went swimming in full armor! What an idiot. Before anyone could do anything he went to the bottom and drowned.

Brotherhood of Evil Mutants

So we were in charge of dealing with the evil mongrels and the cultists in their compound. Also we need to find a wway to the surface.

We arrived near with the help of Lann the mongrel. With Kilo we went ahead to see what we were dealing with. Unfortunately, or perhaps it was expected for a gnome, Kilo tripped and we were detected. We had to flee and wait for the rest, a stealth approach was not possible.

So we just walked into the entrance of the evil mongrelmen's compound. The result was expected…. they shooted at us. So we just went all-in. We dispatched the first three mongrel guards quickly. Who am I kidding it was mostly me. Perhaps the rest helped a bit, at least Ragnor knows how to handle himself in a fight. Afterwards a cave lizard with more mongrelmen arrived. Nothing we couldn't handle. After we went in two cultists appeared and a more trained mongrelwoman with more underlings. They put a better fight, but they could not stand to my blades. I am getting so good at this.

We are currently exploring more of this lair. For now we have found two things of note, a giant amoeba functioning as a garbage disposal which we left alone, and an (even more) underground cave with a river running through it. With the gnome we went to investigate, and we found and opened a secret door. I might have taken a hit or two by two mutant evil demon dire piranhas. Best to keep out of the water. He went into the secret room, he fell into a pit trap. He lacks my grace in falling. Inside the room was a chest with gold, and a magic ring. Kilo again demonstrate why gnome are not to be trusted. He tried to pocket more gold than was his fair share… greedy gnomes. He even wanted to keep the ring! Better for Bundühr to keep it for now.

Finally, Kenny came back again! My theory: he must have a pact with a god (or perhaps a demon? ). He keeps coming back. Even more strange coming back to die! This time he slipped looking into the garbage room and went full into the garbage compactor aka giant amoeba. It quickly killed him.
